Challenge for Woking Explorer Scouts Minimize

The Three Peaks of Yorkshire was on the minds of 30 Explorer scouts aged 14 to 18 and their leaders, as they travelled up the motorway to the Yorkshire dales over the weekend of 30th October to 2nd November for a weekend of challenge and endurance.

On the Friday afternoon they were taken down Alum pot to explorer the dark and wet caves near Selside. After a good nights sleep in the bunkhouses at Dales bridge, near Ingleton, the Explorers set off on the Saturday at 5 .a.m. in the dark to attempt to climb the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Wernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent in under 12 hours. With ice on the ground and snow on the peaks and a total climb of 5200 feet they covered the 26 miles in under 10 hours, having raced through rain, wind and near zero visibility at times.

Having completed the course they were able to join the prestigious 3 Peaks Club and awarded a certificate of achievement. The following day the scouts climbed and abseiled at the Ingleton Indoor climbing wall, before setting back to Woking.

It was an action packed weekend, and it was pleasing to see that the Explorers were all up for the challenge and they were able to put their navigation skills to good use and experience walking in really bad weather.

 Bazzaz is back! Minimize

bazzaz

After the great success of Bazzaz in 2003 and 2006, Bazzaz, Surrey County Beaver Scouts unique Fun Day is back again in 2009.

Surrey Beaver Scouts can look forward to an exciting day full of fun activities based around a circus theme.

It will take place on Saturday 13th June 2009 between 10am & 4pm and once again will be held at the Cranleigh Showground.

The Bazzaz Committee are busy making preparations and will be visiting District Beaver Leader meetings in the Autumn term with a presentation on Bazzaz – members of the team will be on hand to answer your questions.

Bazzaz is great fun for the Beaver Scouts, and rewarding for the leaders but it is only possible by calling on help from other sections – If you are able to help by running an activity on the day it would be greatly appreciated.

Put the date in your diary now:   Sat 13th June 2009 – Bazzaz.

More news will be posted soon.
